Victoria Police Officers – Have Your Say On Police Pursuit Policy

Since Victoria Police released its restricted Pursuit Policy in July this year, The Police Association has received a steady stream of feedback from members. The feedback has been mixed but more recently it has focused on unintended consequences of the policy.

The latest version of the Pursuit Policy released by Victoria Police, in comparison to the previous policy, significantly limits the ability of members to pursue fleeing drivers.

While the Police Association acknowledges the primary intent of this policy amendment which was to reduce the risk of road trauma to members and the community, the change may have had unintended consequences that need to be reviewed.

From the outset, The Police Association has said, that only time will tell if the new policy works, and that we intend to closely monitor its impact and whether the changes have got the balance right.

To enable us to do this, we are asking our members to have their say on this issue. Your feedback, positive or otherwise, will be used to inform our position on this issue and advocate your views to Victoria Police.

The survey is very short and takes only a few minutes to complete: click here to complete the survey and have your say (VicPol officers/members of TPAV only).

Responses will close on Friday, 12 December 2015.
