Australian Federal Police officers were heard to shout “Drop the knife” before three loud bangs were heard during a raid on a home in Sydney’s west this afternoon.
The police surrounded a multi-level house not far away, yelling at those inside to make contact with them.
Tactical response officers with high-powered rifles were seen stalking the house which had a white Jeep in the driveway and a decorated Christmas tree in the garden.
After 1pm police stormed inside and were heard yelling “drop the knife” before three loud bangs were heard.
An AFP spokeswoman said the incident wasn’t terror related and there was no threat to the public.

They risked their own lives to save others, now Sydney’s courageous security guards are being recognised for their brave acts.
The awards were established by a group of security professionals to recognise acts of bravery and achievement in a dangerous profession and change perceptions of the security industry.
The patron of the Australian Security Medals Foundation is MP Philip Ruddock.
The awards have also recognised lifetime achievements of a number industry professionals including George Zeitoune from Asset Group Solutions; Tom Roche, managing director of SNP, the country’s third largest security company; Neville Kiely from Central Monitoring Services; and Kathy Pavlich from Sydney TAFE.

An unlicensed driver with two young children in her car has been charged after leading police on a high-speed chase in Sydney’s southwest, hitting five cars and crashing in the front yard of a house.
Police said the driver side-swiped three cars and slammed into the back of a silver Hyundai, before mounting the kerb, hitting a van, and stopping in the front yard of a house.

A woman has allegedly crashed into a patrol car after leading police on a chase through Sydney’s inner-west. Police say the 32-year-old woman entered a breath testing site on Regent Street in Redfern about 9pm on Friday but then veered away.
A 15-minute pursuit ensued through Redfern, Waterloo, Erskineville and Newtown. The woman allegedly collided with three vehicles, including a police patrol car, before she was stopped using road spikes.

Hundreds of volunteers help authorities test Sydney’s preparedness for a terrorist attack or natural disaster during a mock emergency this morning.
“The CBD exercise will see over 500 SES and police and fire and many other emergency service personnel come together … to test the EM [emergency management] arrangements in the city,” Assistant Commissioner Michael Fuller said ahead of the event.

A major emergency management exercise will be carried out in the Sydney CBD today (Sunday 24 May 2015) to test emergency management arrangements in case of an incident in the city.
Exercise ‘Sydney CBD’ is a multi agency emergency management exercise involving more than 500 emergency service personnel commencing at 9:00am and concluding at midday.
The Sydney CBD Evacuation Sub Plan has been under review for the past 12 months and today’s exercise is part of the review process and provides police and emergency service organisations with the guidance required in a range of events, including the need to move large numbers of people out of the city.
Those involved in the exercise include the NSW Police Force, Fire & Rescue NSW, Roads and Maritime Services, NSW Ambulance, Transport Management Centre, Transport for NSW, City of Sydney Council, NSW Health – Disaster/Crisis, the Ministry of Police and Emergency Services, Dept of Premier and Cabinet, and Surf Life Saving Australia. 300 volunteers from the RFS, SES and Surf Life Saving Australia will role play workers being evacuated.
Members of the public who reside in the CBD or planning to go into the city on Sunday should be aware that there will be road and lane closures in place to facilitate this important exercise. Please check www.livetraffic.com for maps and details of road and lane closures.

Four officers surrounded a black Ford Falcon ute on Belmore Rd about 12.30pm after the 37-year-old male driver, from Punchbowl, was identified as allegedly having an outstanding warrant for parole violation. A gunman remains on the loose after a fatal shooting in Sydney’s west last night.
The 23-year-old male victim was shot dead at a home in Horsley Park just before midnight.
Large sections of Horsley Drive in both directions running from the M7 to Ferrers Road were cordoned off while police searched into the early hours of this morning, The Daily Telegraph said.

A policeman was hit and injured by a broken bottle and another was assaulted as officers battled to close down a large party in Sydney’s east.
At about 10.30pm on Saturday police were called to an abandoned industrial area on McPherson Street in Botany and for safety reasons attempted to close down a party there attended by around 1000 people…
