Two Montréal Residents Charged With Participating In Activity of a Terrorist Group

The Montréal Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET) announces today that charges have been filed against Sabrine Djermane and El Mahdi Jamali, both aged 18. The two Montréal residents are currently in preventive detention. They face the following charges under the Criminal Code of Canada:

Royal Canadian Mounted Police and CSIS Get Budget Increases As Tories Evoke Terrorism

Ottawa – The RCMP and Canada’s spy and border agencies reaped hundreds of millions of new dollars to fight terrorism in a federal budget that evoked the October killings of two Canadian soldiers in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu and Ottawa.

The five-year, $292.6 million commitment will give additional resources to the Mounties, the Canadian Security Intelligence Service and the Canada Border Services Agency to fight terrorism and terrorist financing.

The new money is an answer to opposition critics who say that Canada’s law enforcement apparatus has been stretched too thin…

In the first week of April, the Cranbrook detachment, the Cranbrook/Kimberley Crime Reduction Unit as well as the Cranbrook Police Dog Service, were able to arrest Cody Kenneth Bauer of Calgary and Kristopher Goerzen of Brooks. Both have been charged with the first degree murder of Nick Lush.
