Lake Illawara Officers Prepare To Remember Service And Sacrifice

Thousands of motorbikes will descend upon the National Police Memorial in Canberra in spring for the annual Wall-to-Wall: Ride for Remembrance.

On September 12, police officers from Australia wide will embark on a special tribute journey across the country honouring the “services and sacrifices” of law enforcement officers to raise money for policing legacy organisations.

This will be the fifth year the southern region of the NSW police force has taken part in the event which was first imagined in 2009 by two officers wanting to honour the lives of their colleagues.

As part of the ride handmade wooden batons are carried by each state or territory’s Police Commissioners which have a hollow centre to carry a document with a list of all the fallen members from that year.

Illawarra Officers To Join Police Legacy Ride

A fleet of 2000 motorbikes will roar into Canberra on September 12, as the Wall To Wall ride for Police Legacy pulls into town.

Two of those will be Senior Constable Jye Sommers and Constable Glenn Fisher, who gained their motorcycle learner’s licences especially for the ride.

The two Lake Illawarra police officers, helped by Trevor Jordan Motorcycles and Fraser Motorcycles, will join an expected 150 local riders to assemble at Kiama on September 12 for the trek to Canberra’s National Police Memorial.

Police Officer To Ride For The Fallen From Sydney To Canberra

Constable James Ghata is taking part in the 300km Police Legacy Ride from Sydney to Canberra on a “fat bike”, to raise money for the family of fallen police officers. It is a cause close to his heart, after witnessing the murder of his duty officer in 2012.
