Former QPS Officers Recognised In Special Ceremony

Deputy Commissioners Ross Barnett and Brett Pointing, and Police Minister Jo-Ann Miller have today presented the National Police Service Medal to 172 former QPS officers for their past service at a ceremony at Brisbane City Hall.

The National Police Service Medal was established on November 9, 2010, representing a police officer’s past and future commitment to give ethical and diligent service and recognises the special status that sworn police officers have because of their role protecting the community.

The National Police Service Medal may be awarded upon completion of 15 years of diligent and ethical service and can also be awarded to a police officer whose ability to complete the minimum qualifying period has been removed through death, injury or disability in the course of their police service.

Boort Police Member Receives Australian Police Medal In Queen’s Birthday Honours

After 27 years as the sole police member for the town of Boort, Leading Senior Constable Ray Stomann considers himself a local.  

As well as arresting thieves, breaking up brawls and counselling teenagers, he volunteers at the town’s football team, hospital, information centre and lake management committee.

His citation describes him as a strong leader and “the epitome of what a one-member station commander should be”. It states: “He has been able to achieve the difficult balance of policing while also being an integral part of the community which he serves.”

Queensland Police Officers and Staff Recognised for Commitment and Service

Police Commissioner Ian Stewart congratulated QPS officers and staff who were presented with medals and awards at a ceremony at Police Headquarters today.

Commissioner Stewart presented a number of QPS and Public Safety Business Agency officers and staff with National and QPS awards in recognition of their outstanding service.
