What Queensland Chief Justice Tim Carmody Said To Colleagues When Resigning

After 11 months of controversy, Tim Carmody finally silenced his critics by tendering his resignation as the state’s Chief Justice.

In what Attorney-General Yvette D’Ath said were “unprecedented” circumstances, Justice Carmody stepped down from Queensland’s highest judicial position, effective from July 2, but has chosen to remain on the Supreme Court bench.

In May this year, Queensland’s next most senior judge, President of the Court of Appeal Margaret McMurdo, refused to work with Justice Carmody following allegations of bias regarding the appeal of Daniel Morcombe’s murderer Brett Peter Cowan, after it emerged Justice Carmody had met with child safety campaigner Hetty Johnson while considering Cowan’s appeal.

Queensland Government In Talks With Chief Justice Carmody On Resignation

Queensland’s deputy premier says talks about Chief Justice Tim Carmody’s resignation are progressing, but insists no deal is being negotiated.

It’s been three weeks since Mr Carmody publicly flagged his intention to resign from the post in order to end months of bitter judicial infighting.

Inquest Into the Deaths Arising From the Lin​​dt Café Siege​: Segment To Start Monday

The inquest into the deaths arising from the Lindt Café siege will examine the circumstances surrounding, and issues arising in relation to, the deaths of Tori Johnson, Katrina Dawson and Man Haron Monis in December 2014.

The inquest is being held in segments, with findings expected to be delivered by the State Coroner in 2016. The dates of the current segment of the inquest are Monday, 25 May 2015 to Friday, 5 June 2015.
