Bravery Awards for Auckland Men Who Stopped Vicious Attack

Others stood by while a young woman was being strangled and punched in her car, but five Auckland men took action to stop the attack, chase down the offender and restrain him until police arrived.

Barrie Olsen, Konrad Berking, Jason Sloan, Maina Papalii and Robert Lew today received bravery awards for their actions during a special ceremony at Henderson Police Station.

Today, Waitakere Police Area Commander Inspector Scott Webb praised the mens’ actions.

Auckland Police ‘Dismayed’ At Age of Criminals

Police say they are dismayed at the ages of people committing crimes after three teenage girls were arrested following a crime spree in Grafton.

Three teenaged girls wearing Auckland Hospital pyjama pants were arrested shortly after they boarded a southbound train in Grafton last evening. Police received two reports of aggravated robberies in close proximity – Khyber Pass Rd and Carlton Gore Rd – at about 7pm.

Inspector Jill Rogers says during the first incident a 17-year-old woman was allegedly assaulted and had her mobile ‘phone and wallet stolen: “A short time later a 29 year-old woman who was jogging along Carlton Gore Rd was confronted by three young women who pulled her to the ground, assaulted her and made off with her head phones.”

Police Eagle Helicopter Keeps Auckland Safe Overnight

Auckland City Police have ensured the quick resolution of a ram raid burglary in Ponsonby, rescued a man who took a late night dip and recovered stolen property thanks to the valuable support the Police Eagle helicopter to ground and water Police units. Just before 1am this morning, a stolen vehicle crashed through the front doors of the Deadly Ponies handbag store in Ponsonby and two men entered, taking a number of high end handbags from the store. The men fled the scene in another stolen vehicle driven by a woman, a transition spotted by Eagle helicopter. The vehicle was tracked and three offenders were arrested without further incident…
