New Zealand Police Boost Security for Anzac Day Commemorations After Jihadist Threats

Police have taken “further security measures” after a Kiwi jihadist urged Islamic State followers in New Zealand to launch attacks on Anzac Day.

In a YouTube video obtained by 3News before it was taken down, Mark Taylor is heard telling IS sympathisers: “Now is the time to commence your operations, even if it means you have to stab a few police officers, soldiers on Anzac Day and so be it.”

Operation Lionheart: New South Wales Police Plea For ANZAC

Local police are urging the community to plan ahead and commemorate Anzac Day safely.

Thousands of people are expected to attend services and ceremonies across the Command tomorrow, commemorating a centenary of Anzac and one of our most important national occasions.

State-wide,  Police will launch Operation Lionheart, a high-visibility policing strategy, involving officers from across Lachlan LAC to provide a family-friendly environment for all Anzac Day events.

Lachlan Local Area Commander, Superintendent Chris Taylor, urged the community to commemorate the Centenary of Anzac locally and safely.

The alleged Anzac Day terror plot in Melbourne has resulted in a heightened level of security at services across the state, including Ipswich.

Police who had planned to march alongside members of the community in celebration of the centenary of Anzac could now find themselves on terror lookout.
