Is It Illegal To Smash Car Window To Save a Dog From the Heat?

With soaring temperatures in North Lincolnshire, people are venturing out to enjoy themselves on beaches and in parks.

Across the UK, though, come incidents of dogs being locked in cars, battling the sweltering heat.

But what is your legal position when it comes to smashing a car window to pull a dog from a vehicle?

Keith Evans from British Institute of Professional Dog Training said: the law states ‘Only a local authority Inspector or a Constable have a power to enter a ‘premises’ for the purpose of assisting an animal that is, or is likely to be, suffering. This is governed under Sections 18 and 19 of the Animal Welfare Act 2006.’

“My advice is that if a person thinks that a dog is suffering, or is likely to suffer, they should call the police on 999. Only in the gravest of circumstances should they take it upon themselves to break into a vehicle, and that they must be prepared to justify their actions as reasonable during any subsequent investigation.”

Puppy Tossed Into Traffic Gets Adopted By Loving Police Officer

A sad case of animal cruelty got a happy ending when a puppy tossed into traffic found a new dad among her rescuers.

Police officers in Midland, Texas, responded to reports of a man seen trying to throw two puppies into the paths of moving cars last week, the Midland Reporter-Telegram reports.

When the officers arrived at the scene, the culprit threw one of the little puppies right onto the windshield of their cruiser. After arresting the abuser, the officers scooped the scared little puppy up and brought her back to the station with them.
