Third man charged following Brighton incident

Police from the Joint Counter Terrorism Team have charged a third man today following the alleged terrorist incident in Brighton on 5 June.

A 47-year-old Westmeadows man has been charged with a range of offences after it was alleged he helped supply a firearm used in the incident last week.

He has been charged with:

• Prohibited Person Possess Firearm, contrary to S.5 (1) of the Firearms Act 1996;

• Possess Cartridge Ammunition without Licence or Permit, contrary to S.124 (1) of the Firearms Act 1996;

South Australia Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team arrest 52-year-old man

Members of the Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team (Special Crimes Investigation Branch) arrested a 52 year old man in the northern suburbs for one counts of rape, one count of persistent sexual exploitation of a child, one count of unlawful sexual intercourse, two counts of indecent assault, one count of indecent behaviour, two counts of producing child exploitation material and two counts of possessing child exploitation material.

It will be alleged that some of the children depicted in the child exploitation material were under 14 years of age.

The male has been refused Police bail and is due to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on 14th June 2017.

Call for information Darwin CBD Update

Northern Territory Police on Tuesday, 13/06/2017 16:45 AEST

Northern Territory Police are calling for further information in relation to an incident outside a Darwin nightclub on Sunday morning.

Detective Senior Sergeant Lee Morgan said the incident occurred around 1:45am outside Throb Nightclub on Smith Street.

“Initial investigations into the incident have determined the 56-year-old male victim was pushed prior to falling to the ground where he sustained serious head injuries.

“Detectives have established the identities of the people involved however there are several more people we wish to talk to about the incident.

“In particular, three females who were in line to enter the nightclub, two pedi-cab drivers parked at the front of the premises and two females who were standing outside, about 15 metres from the entrance at the time.

“We believe these people may have information that can assist the investigation.

“We ask that they call 131 444 or contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”

Woman rescued after car falls into creek – Northern NSW

Police and family have praised the quick-thinking actions of the public after an elderly woman reversed into a creek in the state’s north this morning.

At 9am on Tuesday 13 June 2017, a 73-year-old woman was reversing her car, a late model white Toyota Prado, on a property on Warwick Park Road, Wooyung, 35km north of Byron Bay.

The car slid into the creek after recent heavy rains caused the creek edge and road to become slippery.

The woman was trapped in the partially submerged car with her head just above water level, allowing her to breath.

Her husband, family friend and two nearby residents came to her aid and contacted emergency services.

Methamphetamine Seizure – Darwin

Organised Crime Division detectives have seized 100 grams of methamphetamine and arrested a 39-year-old male at Darwin Airport.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Stringer said the male was arrested on Saturday after methamphetamine was allegedly discovered in his underwear.

“The male has been charged with possess and supply a commercial quantity of a schedule one drug and using a false ID to purchase an air ticket.

“He was remanded in custody to appear in the Darwin Local Court today.”

Detective Senior Sergeant Stringer said the NT Organised Crime Division had now seized more than 570 grams of methamphetamine in June alone.

“We are very happy to have seized a significant amount of methamphetamine in the past two weeks. This drug has taken a terrible toll on NT families and the community and the less out there the better.

“We urge anyone with any information to contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 if you suspect anyone of using or dealing methamphetamine.”

Edithvale residential burglary

Kingston Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating an attempted burglary which occurred at residential house in Edithvale in May.

Investigators have been told a man attempted to jemmy a window open on a house in Station Street at about 3pm on 24 May.

The resident was home at the time and confronted the man, chasing him down the street.

The man was last seen heading on foot along Edithvale Road.

The man is believed to be Caucasian in appearance, with a skinny build and short wispy hair.

Three charged after police injured – Illawarra area

New South Wales Police on Tuesday, 13/06/2017 15:14 AEST

Two men and a woman have been charged after allegedly assaulting two police officers during an arrest in Albion Park yesterday.

About 7.50pm (Monday 12 June 2017), officers from Lake Illawarra Local Area Command attended a home in Hillside Drive, Albion Park, following inquiries into an alleged aggravated break and enter.

Officers attended and attempted to arrest a 30-year-old man. Police will allege a physical struggle ensued and police employed the use of a Taser to subdue the man.

A 44-year-old man and 44-year-old woman at the home were also arrested after they tried to intervene.

Two officers sustained minor injuries that did not require treatment.

Police release images following attempted armed robbery – Marrickville

Police have released CCTV images as they continue to investigate an attempted armed robbery in Marrickville last month.

About 6.15pm on Sunday 28 May 2017, a man entered a supermarket on Illawarra Road and threatened an employee with a knife.

The man left the store and was last seen riding a red mountain bike south on Illawarra Road.

Police from Marrickville Local Area Command are investigating the incident and have released CCTV images of a man who may be able to assist with their inquiries.

He is described as being in his late 40s or 50s and Caucasian in appearance. He is between 170-175cm and has a thin build. He may have a tattoo on the back of his left hand. In the CCTV images the man is seen wearing a black hooded jacket with a small white symbol on the back, dark grey pants, white runners, black sunglasses and an orange and black helmet.

Six-year-old boy dies after serious crash – Griffith.

A boy has died after being seriously injured in a crash in Griffith last week.

About 2.30pm on Sunday 4 June 2017, a six-year-old boy was riding his blue Yamaha Peewee 50 motor cycle on the grounds of a farm on Bishop Road.

Once out onto the roadway, the young boy turned right directly into the path of a Ford Utility travelling north easterly along Bishop Road, Yoogali.

The boy was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Griffith Base Hospital.

He was then airlifted to Sydney Children’s Hospital in a critical condition, but died as a result of his injuries on Sunday 11 June 2017.

Not so regal results

Victoria Police on Tuesday, 13/06/2017 14:22 AEST

Police detected more than 8,300 traffic offences and more than 800 crime offences during the four days of Operation Regal over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.

Disappointingly 3160 motorists were caught speeding and 418 motorists fined for using their mobile phones, an increase of 23 and 28 per cent respectively on last year.

One in every 15 drivers tested furnished a positive result for drugs while 245 drink drivers were caught after more than 147,200 drivers were tested.

Road Policing Command Acting Assistant Commissioner Debra Robertson said the number of people found to be speeding as well as using their phones was a risk to the community so easily avoided.

“I’m not sure what it will take for motorists to heed the warnings,” A/AC Robertson said.

Police investigate Moliagul ramming incident

Goldfields police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was involved in a ramming incident in Moliagul on Saturday.

Police have been told the victim, a 54-year-old White Hills woman, was driving her vehicle west on the Wimmera Highway at about 10.20am.

Between Murphy’s Creek and Moliagul she has passed a dark blue sedan parked on the side of the road also facing west.

This vehicle then proceeded to follow the victim for about 5kms before ramming the victim’s vehicle from behind.

The victim started to pull over and has again been rammed twice from behind causing her to lose control of her vehicle swerving across the road into a shallow culvert and rolling.

Cash and drugs seized following Stawell search

Police have charged a man after a search netted a significant quantity of drugs and cash in Stawell last week.

The Southern Grampians Divisional Tasking Team executed a search warrant at a residential property on Fisher Street at about 7.30am on Friday, 9 June.

With the assistance of the Dog Squad, investigators seized 2kg cannabis, 104g methyl amphetamine, 8.25g heroin and $22,440 as well as drug paraphernalia.

The 69-year-old Stawell man was charged with possessing trafficable amounts of cannabis, heroin and methyl amphetamine, and possessing a commercial quantity of methyl amphetamine.

The man was remanded to appear at Horsham Magistrates’ Court today via video link.

Man in custody after stabbing – Bankstown

A man has been arrested after a stabbing at Bankstown.

About 10.35am today (Tuesday 13 June 2017), police were called to a cafe in Bankstown City Plaza after reports of a stabbing.

Officers located a 50-year-old man with a stab wound to the chest.

He has been taken to Liverpool Hospital in a serious condition.

A crime scene has been established which will be examined by forensic specialist.

Four dead is four too many, as Operation Stay Alert concludes

Police are dismayed at the loss of four lives during Operation Stay Alert, a four day road policing operation for the Queen’s Birthday long-weekend.

Operation Stay Alert commenced at midnight on Friday 9 June 2017 and concluded last night at 11.59pm (Monday 12 June 2017).

During the operation four people tragically lost their lives.

Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy of the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, said four lives lost on NSW roads in one long weekend is a tragedy.

“Four lives lost over the course of one long-weekend is four too many.

Five juveniles charged after attempted robbery – Kelso.

Police have charged five juveniles following an alleged attempted robbery in the state’s Central Tablelands yesterday.

About 6.55pm (Monday 12 June 2017) a 20-year-old woman was driving along Boyd Street, Kelso, when five juveniles wearing balaclavas stood on the roadway and blocked her vehicles path.

The juveniles allegedly attempted to gain entry to her vehicle and one male jumped on her bonnet.

The woman called triple zero “000” and a nearby police vehicle responded. As police approached they saw the same group attempting to stop another vehicle.

The five juveniles were arrested and conveyed to Bathurst Police Station.

Armed Robbery – Brooker Highway Bottleshop, Lutana

Tasmania Police on Tuesday, 13/06/2017 11:27 AEST

The offender is described as about 170 cm tall of medium to solid build. He was dressed in black, wearing a black balaclava, hoody and pants (possibly of Adidas brand). His shoes were black with large white soles.

The offender left on foot, crossing the Brooker Highway in front of oncoming cars causing motorists to take evasive action to avoid hitting him.

Police are asking anyone who may have information relating to this incident to contact them on 131 444. If you were driving on the Brooker Highway at the Derwent Park intersection, last night around 8:00pm and you saw the offender or had to take evasive action to avoid hitting him, Police would like to speak to you.

The offender in this matter had a particularly aggressive nature and Police are actively following up any information provided. If you know who the offender is but do not wish to speak with police directly, Police urge you to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at crimestoppers.tas.com.au.

Crime Stoppers do not need to know your name, just your information.

Statement on Enterprise Agreement negotiations

On Thursday 8 June 2017, the AFP entered the Access period for the proposed AFP Enterprise Agreement. The proposed Agreement offers the workforce a 6% pay increase over three years. This is the maximum permissible under the Commonwealth Government’s Workplace Bargaining policy.

Currently, a small group of employees are assigned to the High Volume working pattern. This group (approximately 4.5 per cent of the AFP’s total workforce), receives 22% composite payment for working flexibly, and an additional payment of 35% of base salary solely to work up to 10 additional hours per week.

The AFP propose to continue to pay this group the 22% composite and implement a new overtime payment model.

The new model will ensure this group of AFP employees are paid for all additional hours actually worked, rather than receiving a set annual allowance. This is consistent with all other AFP employees.

The AFP can therefore not foresee any situation where an employee will lose “up to 23% of their salary”, as the AFPA has claimed.

Burns Victim- Update

The next of kin has asked for privacy until such a time as they are able to make a statement. Media reports about the condition of the young woman should be restricted to official media releases by Tasmania Police.

The man accused of causing grievous bodily harm and other matters has been remanded in custody to appear in the Supreme Court on 13 June 2017. He did not apply for bail.

Man charged over alleged kidnapping of woman – Bankstown

New South Wales Police on Tuesday, 13/06/2017 10:00 AEST

A man will face court in Wagga Wagga after allegedly kidnapping a woman at Bankstown yesterday.

About 2am (Monday 12 June 2017), police will allege an 18-year-old woman was contacted by a 31-year-old man at a home in Bankstown.

The woman was taken in a car to a number of locations around Sydney and allegedly sexually assaulted before being driven south towards Melbourne.

The family of the woman contacted police who located the car on the Hume Highway at Gundagai just before 9pm (Monday 12 June 2017).

A 31-year-old man was arrested and taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station where he was charged with sexual assault, indecent assault and kidnapping.

Woman charged with drug and property offences – Tweed Heads

A woman has been charged following the execution of a search warrant at her Tweed Heads home yesterday.

About 3pm (Monday 12 June 2017), officers from Tweed/Byron Local Area Command searched the unit on Enid Street that is occupied by a 52-year-old woman.

During the search police allegedly located 500gms of cannabis, over $9000 in cash and several computers and computer hardware believed to be stolen.

The woman was arrested and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station where she was charged with drug supply and possession, receiving stolen property, goods in custody and knowingly deal with the proceeds of crime.

She was refused bail and will appear in Tweed Heads Local Court today (Tuesday 13 June 2017).

Man injured during attempted robbery – North Coast

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attempted robbery of a man in Tweed Heads last night.

About 9.15pm (Monday 12 June 2017), a 69-year-old man was sitting in his vehicle parked on Minjungbal Drive when he was approached by a man.

The occupant wound his window down and in doing so the man reached in and started punching the 69-year-year-old in the head.

The man opened the driver’s side door and attempted to get in. The occupant managed to fight him off and close the door, however, the man continued to assault the occupant through the open window.

A man who witnessed the incident came to the aid of the older man who had suffered significant facial injuries including a broken nose.

Two teens injured in crash – Unanderra

Two teens have been injured in a car crash south of Sydney last night.

About 7.30pm (Monday 12 June 2017), a 17-year-old youth and his 17-year-old passenger were travelling north on the Princes Highway, Unanderra, in a Mitsubishi Mirage.

When the vehicle approached the intersection of Nolan Street the Mirage attempted to make a right hand turn and collided with a Ford Territory being driven south on the Princes Highway by a 34-year-old man.

The male driver of the Mirage suffered head injuries and was taken to St George Hospital where he is in a stable condition.

His passenger was taken to Wollongong Hospital with shoulder and hip injuries.

Search for missing man Ya Mei Wu

Police are appealing for public assistance to help locate missing man Ya Mei Wu.

The 75-year-old was last seen in Chelmsford Street, Balwyn North just after 4pm.

Police and family have concerns for his welfare as he has short term memory loss and is new to the area.

There was a possible sighting of him about 9pm in Doncaster.

He was last seen wearing a grey suit jacket and pants and is most likely pushing a black shopping trolley and carrying a hand held radio.

Search for missing teen Jennifer Ly

Police are appealing for public assistance to help locate missing 14-year-old girl Jennifer Ly.

Jennifer was last seen at a school on The Crossing in Caroline Springs about 9.15am on Monday 5 June.

Police and her family have concerns for her welfare because of her age and the length of time she has been missing.

Jennifer is Asian in appearance, with a slim build and long black hair.

She is known to frequent the St Albans, Sunshine and Melbourne CBD areas, and is known to attend video game arcades

Man found after being stabbed – Hunters Hill

New South Wales Police on Monday, 12/06/2017 20:14 AEST

Investigations are underway after a man was found with stab wounds in Sydney’s north west.

Emergency services were called to a unit on Joubert Street, Hunters Hill, following reports a man had been stabbed in the upper torso just before 7pm today (Monday 12 June 2017).

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated a 27-year-old man at scene, for his stab wound and lacerations to his arms and legs before taking him to Royal North Shore Hospital.

Officers attached to Ryde Local Area Command established a crime scene and have commenced an investigation into the incident.

Inquiries are continuing and police are urging anyone with information to contact police via Crime Stoppers.
