Update: Man assaulted during hijack – Strathfield

New South Wales Police on Thursday, 08/06/2017 10:29 AEST

Police are appealing for public information after an aggravated robbery in Strathfield yesterday.

About 7.45pm (Wednesday 7 June 2017), a 23-year-old man was driving a Subaru Impreza registration number: DNE-55G (nsw plates) on Long Street, Strathfield, when he was flagged down by an unknown man.

The driver stopped the vehicle and the unknown man got into the car and threatened the 23-year-old man with a firearm, demanding money and his mobile phone.

Another unknown man entered the vehicle and produced a knife.

During the altercation, the 23-year-old man was assaulted and stabbed to his left forearm.

Policeman charged by Professional Standards Command

Victoria Police on Thursday, 08/06/2017 10:20 AEST

A policeman has been charged following a Professional Standards Command investigation.

The senior constable, from the Western Region, has been charged on summons with attempt to pervert the course of justice and misconduct in public office relating to two incidents that allegedly occurred in 2014.

He was charged on summons and will appear in the Geelong Magistrates’ Court on 16 June.

The policeman is currently suspended from duty.

Police release images after robbery – Sydney

Police have released images and are appealing for information following a robbery in Sydney’s CBD last month.

About 1.45am on Sunday 21 May 2017 a 24-year-old man was on Druitt Street, Sydney, when he was approached by another man who demanded he hand over his mobile phone.

After initially refusing, the 24-year-old man handed over the phone after being assaulted.

The man left with the phone and met up with another man, before the pair walked away.

As inquiries continue, detectives from Sydney City Local Area Command would like to speak with two men shown in CCTV images who may be able to assist with their investigation.

Don’t let your trip become a tragedy – Operation Stay Alert

New South Wales Police on Thursday, 08/06/2017 09:00 AEST

Police are urging motorists to stay alert in order to avoid their trip from becoming the next tragedy this Queen’s Birthday long weekend.

More police will be out on the roads and double demerits will be enforced during the annual Operation Stay Alert road safety campaign, which begins at midnight tonight (12.01am Friday 9 June 201) and runs until 11.59pm on Monday (12 June 2017).

Since the start of the year, 161 people have already lost their lives in this state alone.

Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy from the States Traffic & Highway Patrol Command said that a combination of tiredness and drivers using unfamiliar roads is a deadly combination.

“Many people this weekend will be embarking on long car trips on roads that are unfamiliar to them. When you drive tired and on a road you don’t know, the combination can be disastrous.

Man arrested following act of indecency – Police Transport Command

A man will face court today after he allegedly committed an act of indecency on a train last month.

About 2pm on Thursday 18 May 2017, a man was observed committing an act of indecency on a train that was travelling between Redfern and Strathfield.

The matter was reported to police who commenced investigations into the incident, including a review of CCTV footage.

About 1.40pm today (Wednesday 7 June 2017), officers attached to the Police Transport Command were conducting patrols of Wentworth Avenue, Surry Hills, when they stopped and spoke to a man.

He was subsequently arrested and taken to Surry Hills Police Station where he was charged with commit act of indecency, not possess ticket and behave in an offensive manner.

Two charged after armed robbery and assault – Newtown

New South Wales Police on Thursday, 08/06/2017 09:00 AEST

Police have charged a man and a girl over an alleged armed robbery and assault in Newtown earlier this week.

About 9pm on Tuesday 6 June 2017, a 37-year-old man and a 14-year-old girl drove to Illawarra Road, Marrickville, where they met with another man, aged 24, and a woman, aged 18.

They drove to an address in Newtown where an altercation took place.

Police have been told the 37-year-old man and the 14-year-old girl, armed with a weapon, possibly a taser, assaulted the 24-year-old man, before allegedly taking his watch and other jewellery.

They fled the area and the 24-year-old man reported the incident to police.

MORE VISIBLE POLICE PRESENCE IN CBD

Victoria Police on Thursday, 08/06/2017 08:50 AEST

Additional police will be deployed across Melbourne’s CBD ahead of a packed schedule of major sporting events in the coming days.

The ramped up police presence will be visible across Melbourne, including transport centres and central locations such as Federation Square, Bourke Street Mall and Melbourne Central.

This boosted around the clock presence will mean anyone entering or leaving the city is likely to notice the increased police deployment.

Deputy Commissioner Shane Patton said the increased deployment was for the purposes of reassurance and there was no specific threat to the community.

“People should go about their daily business and enjoy everything Melbourne has to offer,” he said.

Motorcyclist dies after Carlingford crash

A motorcyclist has died after a collision with a truck at Carlingford this morning (Thursday 8 June 2017).

The crash occurred on Pennant Hills Road, near the intersection of Beddington Road, about 7am.

Despite the efforts of those at the scene, the motorcyclist was unable to be revived.

The truck driver is being assessed on site by NSW Ambulance Paramedics and will undergo mandatory testing.

Traffic diversions are in place around the crash site. For the latest on road conditions, motorists are advised to check www.livetraffic.com .

Critical incident investigation launched following serious crash – Caringbah

A critical incident investigation has been launched after a serious crash in Caringbah.

About 5:20pm (Wednesday 7 June 2017), officers attached to Miranda Local Area Command were patrolling Taren Point Road when they attempted to stop a Holden Commodore.

Police activated their lights and sirens and indicated for the driver to stop. It will be alleged the Commodore drove away and hit a nearby pole.

The male driver, aged 17, was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being conveyed to St George Hospital in a critical condition.

A female passenger was taken to Sydney Children’s Hospital in a stable condition.

Police investigate single-vehicle crash – Lidcombe

New South Wales Police on Thursday, 08/06/2017 07:00 AEST

Police are investigating following a single vehicle crash that left six people injured in Lidcombe early this morning.

About 2.15am (Thursday 8 June 2017), emergency services were called to Railway Street, Lidcombe, after reports a Toyota Camry left the road and hit a power pole.

The driver, a man aged in his 20’s, was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being taken to Liverpool Hospital for treatment to a leg injury. His passenger was taken to the same hospital after sustaining a serious foot injury

Two occupants of the Camry were taken to Westmead Hospital with facial injuries One passenger was taken to Royal Price Alfred Hospital with possible internal injuries.

Another occupant was treated at the scene for minor leg injuries.

Police investigate taxi robbery – Ultimo

Police are appealing for information after an armed robbery of a taxi driver in Ultimo.

About 10pm (Wednesday 7 June 2017), a taxi driver, aged 37, stopped at the intersection of Wattle Street and Kelly Street, Ultimo, and picked up a man.

The man requested to be driven to Mountain Street, Ultimo.

Upon arriving, the unknown man, produced a knife and allegedly threatened the driver demanding money.

The taxi driver complied and the man fled on foot with a sum of cash.

Search for missing man Anthony Gillespe

Police are appealing for public assistance to help locate Anthony Gillespe.

The 39-year-old was last seen in the CBD on Saturday.

Police and family have concerns for his welfare due to the length of time he has been missing.

Anthony was last seen wearing a black jacket, blue jeans, white and purple runners and a white cap.

Police have released an image of Anthony in the hope someone recognises him.

Search for missing man Robert Fameli

Police are appealing for public assistance to help locate missing Avondale Heights man Robert Fameli.

The 47-year-old was last seen on East Esplanade, St Albans about 7.40pm this evening.

Police and family have concerns for his welfare as his disappearance is out of character and Robert has difficulties communicating.

Investigators have released an image of Robert in the hope someone recognises him and can provide information on his whereabouts.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Avondale Heights Police Station 9337 6777.

Man charged after shooting – Greenacre

New South Wales Police on Wednesday, 07/06/2017 23:14 AEST

A man will face court tomorrow after another man was shot in Sydney’s west last year.

About 9.20am (Friday 9 September 2016), emergency services were called to Pandora Street, Greenacre, following reports of shots fired.

Officers from Bankstown Local Area Command attended and located a man, aged 38, with a gunshot wound to his calf.

He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance Paramedics before being taken to hospital and has since been released.

A crime scene was established and examined by specialist officers.

Police investigate Heatherton crash

Officers have been told a Toyota sedan was headed west along Warrigal Road about 6.30pm.

A car travelling in the opposite direction has executed a right hand turn and collided with the Toyota.

The offending car then drove off.

The driver of the Toyota, a 44-year-old man from Donvale, was taken to hospital suffering non-life threatening injuries.

Third man charged over murder of Qin Wu – SCC Homicide Squad

New South Wales Police on Wednesday, 07/06/2017 20:00 AEST

A third man has been charged over the alleged murder of a man in Sydney’s south west earlier this year.

About 11pm on Wednesday 1 February 2017, police and emergency services attended a house on Kennedy Street, Guildford, following reports a man had been shot.

Despite the best efforts of NSW Ambulance paramedics, the man died at the scene.

He was formally identified as 37-year-old Chinese National, Qin Wu.

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, with the assistance of Rosehill Local Area Command, established Strike Force Buttle to investigate Mr Wu’s death.

Men charged following police pursuit – Lake Macquarie

Police have arrested three people following a police pursuit in the Lake Macquarie area yesterday.

About 10.30am (Tuesday 6 June 2017) police attached to the Lake Macquarie Target Action Group were in Close Street, Wallsend, when they saw a silver Holden Commodore.

Checks revealed the vehicle had been stolen during a break and enter at Merewether last week.

The car accelerated away and a pursuit was initiated, but was terminated on Lake Road, Glendale.

Police then received a number of calls reporting that the vehicle was driving on a pedestrian walkway through bushland.

Phillip Bell wanted on warrant

Campaspe Crime Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for public assistance to help locate Phillip Bell.

The 33-year-old is wanted for failing to appear at court.

Police would like to speak to Bell who they believe may be able to assist with enquiries relating to a number of burglaries in the Echuca area.

He is described as about 190cm tall with a medium build, dark shaven hair and stubble.

Bell is known to frequent the Echuca and Healesville areas.

Officer charged – Southern Region

About 12.45am on Sunday 4 June 2017, officers stopped a vehicle on Berthong Road, Cootamundra, for the purpose of a random breath test.

The male driver was arrested after returning a positive roadside breath test.

He was taken to Cootamundra Police Station, where a breath analysis returned an alleged reading of 0.083.

The senior constable, who is attached to a specialist command within the Western Region, was issued with a Field Court Attendance Notice for mid-range PCA.

He is due to appear at the Cootamundra Local Court on Monday 3 July 2017.

Double shot

Officers from Maroondah Highway Patrol have been left shaking their heads in disbelief after having to intercept the same driver twice for allegedly drinking and driving on Monday.

About 12.20am Sunday police intercepted a Hyundai on Stud Road, Ringwood.

They spoke to the driver, a 37-year-old man, and he underwent a preliminary breath test.

He was required to attend a police station for an evidentiary breath test and his female passenger was taken home.

The driver underwent the evidentiary breath test and returned an alleged reading of 0.147%.

Teens charged following investigations into alleged sexual assault – Salamander Bay

Two teenagers have been charged following investigations into an alleged sexual assault that occurred in 2015.

It is alleged that on Tuesday 22 December 2015, a then 16-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by two teens, then aged 15 and 16, at a house in Salamander Bay.

The incident was reported to Port Stephens Local Area Command and an investigation was commenced.

Following ongoing inquiries, two teenage boys were arrested yesterday (Tuesday 6 June 2017).

They were taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station and both were charged with aggravated sexual assault in company.

Police investigate aggravated break and enter – Telopea

A man has been hospitalised following an aggravated break and enter at Telopea today.

About 1.40pm (Wednesday 7 June 2017), emergency services were called to a house on Yurunga Street following reports of a break and enter.

Once at the location, police were told a man had returned to his home and interrupted an intruder who then assaulted him and fled with an amount of cash.

The victim, aged in his 20s, suffered facial injuries and was treated at the scene before being taken to Westmead Hospital.

Police established a crime scene at the location and conducted patrols of the area.

Cash Seized Following Cross District Offence Arrests

Midland Detectives have arrested two men following their investigation into a series of offences committed in Greenwood, Ellenbrook, Wembley and Claremont during May 2017.

Police will allege that during the incidents the offenders forced entry to homes and stole vehicles, cash and property. During one of the incidents, the offenders made threats to the occupants of a house while armed with a firearm.

On Tuesday 6 June 2017, officers from the Midland Detectives Office executed a search warrant in Cockburn which resulted in a 22 year old man being arrested in relation to their investigation. A second person was arrested after police located and seized a bag which contained $122,900 cash.

Proceeds of Crime Squad detectives commenced an investigation to establish the owner of the cash. As a result of that investigation a freezing notice has been served pending the outcome of the court process.

Investigation into Caroline Springs death continues

Police are appealing for public information as the investigation into the death of a man in Caroline Springs on Sunday night continues.

The body of 36-year-old Caroline Springs man Patryk Bondar was located by a passer-by on Caravel Lane just before 10pm on 4 June.

The exact circumstances surrounding his death are still to be established however police are treating it as suspicious.

Investigators are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity or has CCTV footage in the vicinity of The Esplanade.

They would also like to speak to anyone driving through the area between about 9.30pm and 10pm that night who may have captured dash cam footage.

Women injured in Harrow crash

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are en route to a serious crash near Harrow.

Investigators have been told a car left Coleraine-Edenhope Road and crashed into a tree about 12.50pm this afternoon.

The driver, believed to be in her 70s, and her passenger, believed to be in her 80s, were injured in the crash.

The driver was taken to hospital suffering minor injuries while her passenger was airlifted to hospital suffering serious injuries.

Frankston cafe burglary

Frankston Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a burglary which occurred at a café in Frankston in April.

Officers have been told a thief broke walked into the café, which is located inside a shopping complex on Beach Street, about 7am.

Once inside the store the man located a safe and stolen a large sum of money.

The man then left the complex and was last seen headed along Beach Street.

The offender is perceived to be Caucasian in appearance, about 170cm tall and with a thin build.

Fatal Hampton collision

Investigators believe an elderly female was crossing Small Street about 1.50pm.

She was struck by a utility turning left from Hampton Street and died at the scene.

The male driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene and has spoken to police.

Altona Meadows truck rollover

It is believed a truck went off the road on a service lane near the Princes Freeway about 1.15pm and rolled.

Emergency services have freed a male driver, believed to be aged in his 40s, who was trapped in the cabin.

He has been taken to hospital in a critical condition.

The off ramp from the Princes Freeway to Point Cook Road remains closed.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Police release image after child approached – Darling Harbour

Police have released an image of a man they would like to speak to after a child was approached at Darling Harbour yesterday.

About 12.45pm (Tuesday 6 June 2017), a man was at Tumbalong Park watching his 19-month-old son play in the playground.

Investigators have been told an unknown man approached the toddler and appeared to try to pick him up, before the boy’s father intervened.

The man then left the area in the company of two younger men.

The child’s father then reported the matter to police, who began an investigation.

Cranbourne North armed robberies

Police are investigating a number of armed robberies at a liquor store in Cranbourne North this month.

At 6.20pm on 2 June, two offenders entered the William Thwaites Boulevard store and produced a knife and demanded cash while the second offender stole alcohol from the fridge.

The offenders fled on foot along Lindon Tree Way.

No one was injured in the incident.

At 9.00pm on 6 June three offenders entered the store armed with a knife and an altercation has occurred with one victim receiving injuries to his upper body.

Ararat police on playground patrol

Victoria Police on Wednesday, 07/06/2017 14:29 AEST

Police are appealing for witnesses following an act of criminal damage at Alexandra Gardens in Ararat yesterday.

It is believed an unknown offender/s moved a green wheelie bin onto the metal platform of a children’s playground near Vincent Street and set it alight just after midnight on 6 June.

They also vandalised a shade sail with graffiti before ripping it from the playground supports, leaving a large damage bill.

Police patrolling the gardens noticed the small fire in the playground and alerted CFA crews, who extinguished it.

Investigators have released images of the shade sail in the hope someone may recognise the tags.

Appeal for witnesses following Keysborough collision

Greater Dandenong Highway Patrol officers are appealing for witnesses following a serious collision in Keysborough this morning.

It is believed a silver 1998 Toyota Camry sedan was travelling south on Perry Road when it has taken a right-hand bend and lost control about 7.50am.

The vehicle crossed double lines and collided into the passenger side of a northbound Mercedes van.

A 42-year-old man, the sole occupant of Mercedes, was not injured.

The male driver of the Toyota, who is yet to be formally identified, sustained life threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.

New Toronto Police Station official opening.

New South Wales Police on Wednesday, 07/06/2017 14:14 AEST

A new $6.8 million police station at Toronto has been officially opened today by the Minister for Police and Minister for Emergency Services, The Honourable Troy Grant MP.

NSW Police Force Deputy Commissioner Regional Field Operations Gary Worboys, APM, and Lake Macquarie Local Area Commander Superintendent Brett Greentree joined Minister Grant to celebrate the milestone during a formal ceremony at 11am today (Wednesday 7 June 2017).

Construction of the new station began in November 2015 and it has been fully operational since Tuesday 7 March 2017.

It replaced the previous building which dates back to the 1960s at the current site.

The new building incorporates a segregated charge room, a new meeting facility which allows briefings, taskforces, and training to be conducted at the station, and an upgraded public waiting area with a television, toilet facilities and improved seating.

Investigation launched into fatal house fire – Parkes

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man whose body was located following a house fire at Parkes earlier this week.

About 11.40am on Monday (5 June 2017), police from Lachlan Local Area Command responded to reports of a fire at a unit block on Grenfell Street, Parkes.

The fire was extinguished by fire fighters from Fire & Rescue NSW, with two units sustaining significant damage.

The body of a 71-year-old man was located inside one of the damaged units.

The resident of the other unit, a 38-year-old man, was also treated at the scene before being taken to Orange Health Service for assessment.

Breton Bay Fatal Crash – Information Sought

Lancelin Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Indian Ocean Drive Breton Bay (between Seabird and Ledge Point) on Monday 5 June 2017.

At approximately 12:45pm, a dark grey coloured Holden Captiva travelling north on Indian Ocean Drive collided with a red Mitsubishi Pajero towing a camper trailer that was travelling south on Indian Ocean Drive.

The 40 year old male driver of the Holden received life threatening injuries and died at the scene. His 40 year old wife and their two young children received minor injuries and were taken by ambulance to the Joondalup Health Campus. The family was visiting Perth from Singapore.

The female driver of the Mitsubishi, a 64 year old woman from Warnbro, received minor injuries and was also conveyed to the Joondalup Health Campus for treatment.

Port Sorell Incident 6 June 2017

“Yesterday we utilised various resources, including the Westpac Rescue Helicopter and road spikes to assist us in safely arresting the offenders.”

As a result of the arrests, two vehicles were impounded.

The two brothers appeared in an out-of-hours court last night and were remanded in custody.

35-year-old Dean Nichols has been charged with:

Burglary, stealing, motor vehicle stealing, evade police, possession of stolen property, unlicensed driving, unregistered motor vehicle, among others.

Warrant issued for Eugene Geortsacos

Police are appealing for public assistance to help locate Eugene Geortsacos.

The 32-year-old has four outstanding warrants relating to theft from a motor vehicle, theft from a shop, obtaining property by deception and unlawful assault.

He is also wanted for failing to comply with a community corrections order and failing to appear in court on bail.

Geortsacos is known to frequent the Clayton, Springvale and Caulfield areas.

He is described as Caucasian, approximately 170cm tall, thin brown hair and a goatee beard.

Warrant issued for Adam Sandlant

Police are appealing for public assistance to help locate Adam Sandlant.

A warrant has been issued for the 39-year-old’s arrest in relation to an incident in Ballarat on 6 June, where a police car was struck by another vehicle.

Sandlant is described as 170cm tall with a medium build and was last seen wearing dark coloured clothing.

He is known to frequent Ballarat and surrounding areas.

Police have released an image of Sandlant in the hope someone recognises him and can provide information on his whereabouts.

Expensive phone use in Prahran

Prahran Highway Patrol and uniform police used a ‘spotter’ to identify offending drivers during Operation Four Ways on Chapel Street, Prahran yesterday.

The operation was run between 9am and 3pm and focused primarily on driver distraction offences in order to protect vulnerable road users including pedestrians and cyclists.

In six hours, 80 drivers committed 92 offences. 85 penalty notices were issued and 42 of them were for using a mobile phone. The remainder of the offences were failing to wear a seatbelt, driving an unregistered motor vehicle, performing illegal U-turns and motorcycles riding in the bicycle lane.

Senior Constable Nick Brennan of Prahran HWP said, “The operation saw the 12 members with little time to rest, as driver after driver flouted the road rules on one of the areas busiest streets, with a high mix of bicycles and pedestrians.”

“It is very disappointing to see such widespread use of mobile phones by drivers despite the education and advertising used to deliver the message that distraction kills.”

Police hunt for Springvale carjackers

Police are appealing for public assistance following a carjacking in Springvale Monday night.

Investigators have been told the victim was driving north on Springvale Road when his vehicle was struck from behind by a stolen Toyota about 9.40pm on 5 June.

The victim pulled them over in Young Street to exchange details where he was approached by one of two men from the Toyota who was armed with what is believed to be an axe.

The man demanded the keys and threatened the victim who subsequently handed over the keys to his black Holden VF Commodore sedan, registration ABI332.

The second offender then fled in the Holden before the first offender followed him in the Toyota down to Peace Street.
