Man Detained After Crashing Car Into Adelaide’s Sturt Police Station

7382928-3x2-700x467A man has crashed his car through the front glass doors of the Sturt police station, in Adelaide’s south.

Police said the car crashed through two automated glass doors at the station’s entrance about 2:00am on Wednesday.

Officers were inside the station but were not hurt.

The driver was a 35-year-old man from Morphettville.

He was immediately detained, checked by paramedics and found not to have been injured.

He was taken to the Flinders Medical Centre and held under the Mental Health Act.

Despite the extensive damage to the entrance, police said there had not been any structural damage to the building.

Police are continuing to operate from the station today, but are asking people to attend other stations for non-urgent matters.

The ramming of an Adelaide police station with a car shows how vulnerable they can be to attack and the need for an urgent upgrade of security, the Police Association says.

Police Association president Mark Carroll said members were concerned by the incident.
