Woman arrested over dangerous driving south of the city

South Australia Police on Friday, 04/03/2016 21:21 AEST

A woman has been arrested after she drove in a dangerous manner through several southern suburbs, with police using road spikes to eventually stop the car.

Just after 4pm today, police received several calls from the public of a red/maroon Mitsubishi Magna being driven dangerously on South Road through suburbs of Clarence Park, Melrose Park and St Marys.

Police patrols spotted the car several times, but the female driver refused to stop and the Police Helicopter was called in to locate and follow the vehicle.

The Magna was eventually stopped near the Flinders Medical Centre after road spikes were successfully deployed on University Drive at Bedford Park.

A 34-year-old woman from Edwardstown has been arrested and is currently being interviewed over a number of driving offences including driving in a manner and speed dangerous to the public.

During the incident with the Magna, a patrol attempted to stop the car using road spikes (similar to the ones pictured) at the intersection of South Road and Ayliffes Road at St Marys.

The Magna drove over the black coloured spikes, but they became tangled under the suspect vehicle, and it continued south on South Road turning left into Sturt Road.

Police patrols despite a search have been unable to locate the set of road spikes measuring about 3 metres long in total, consisting of 3 x 1 metre lengths.

It is believed an unsuspecting member of the public may have found the road spikes not knowing what they were.
