Police appeal for information after projectile fired into home – Glendale

Police are investigating after a projectile was fired at a unit complex in Glendale this morning.

Between midnight and 12.30am (Saturday 13 February 2016), a man and a woman were awoken to a noise outside their unit on Frederick Street.

About 7am, the woman, aged 59, noticed a hole in the side of the premises and contacted police.

Officers attached to Lake Macquarie Local Area Command attended and established a crime scene.

Police have received no reports of injury.

Police appeal for information following death of water skier – Moama

New South Wales Police on Saturday, 13/02/2016 17:29 AEST

Police are appealing for witnesses following the death of a man at a water skiing event in the state’s Riverina region.

About 2.40pm (Saturday 13 February 2016), police and emergency services responded to reports a water skier had fallen while on the water at an annual water ski race at Moama.

The 51-year-old Sydney man was pulled from the water unconscious.

Police and Ambulance Paramedics conducted CPR, however, the man died at the scene.

Officers from Deniliquin Local Area Command and the Marine Area Command are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Fatal traffic incident, Pomona

Queensland Police Service on Saturday, 13/02/2016 16:45 AEST

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating a fatal traffic incident which occurred on Reserve Street at Pomona this morning.

Initial information suggests at 11.45am, a vehicle which was parked on a hill, rolled down the hill striking a second vehicle. The second vehicle which then collided with two pedestrians.

A 47-year-old woman was declared deceased at the scene while a second woman aged in her 70s did not receive any physical injuries.

Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed anything prior to the incident who has not already spoken to police to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

There is no further information available at this time. Investigations are continuing.

Warrant issued for Carley Ashley

Victoria Police on Saturday, 13/02/2016 16:20 AEST

Police are asking for assistance from the public to help locate Berwick woman, Carley Ashley.

Two warrants have been issued for the 30-year-old’s arrest after she failed to appear on bail.

Investigators have released an image of Ashley in the hope that someone may recognise her or have information on her current whereabouts.

Police investigate fatal crash near Sofala

New South Wales Police on Saturday, 13/02/2016 14:56 AEST

Police are investigating after a woman died and nine people were injured following a crash east of Sofala today.

About 11am (Saturday 13 February 2016), police and emergency services were called to Razorback Road, Running Stream, following reports of a head-on crash.

Initial inquiries indicate a Range Rover was travelling eastbound when it collided head-on with a Mazda 6 wagon travelling westbound.

NSW Ambulance Paramedics treated a total of ten people at the scene – six from the Range Rover and four from the Mazda.

A female passenger in the Range Rover – believed to be aged in her 60s – died at the scene.

Man runs amok in High Street Preston – Police call for witnesses

Victoria Police on Saturday, 13/02/2016 14:49 AEST

Darebin Crime Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for witnesses after a man assaulted several people and attempted an armed robbery at a chemist in Preston earlier today.

Police have arrested a 25-year-old Preston man after he allegedly assaulted a man on a bus just before noon.

Following the assault investigators have been told the man got off the bus near the town hall.

The man then assaulted three men in the street, one of the men being aged in his 80s.

Following these assaults the man allegedly entered a chemist, armed himself with a pair of scissors and attempted to hold up staff.

Man dies following crash in the Clarence Valley

New South Wales Police on Saturday, 13/02/2016 14:34 AEST

A man has died following a crash at Coutts Crossing, in the Clarence Valley, overnight.

About 2am (Saturday 13 February 2016), passersby noticed a Mitsubishi FTO coupe had hit a tree on Burragan Road.

The 19-year-old male driver was trapped inside.

Emergency services were notified and the injured man was flown by Westpac Rescue Helicopter to the Gold Coast Hospital for treatment of critical injuries.

He has since died in hospital.

Thieves steal $80,000 forklift

South Australia Police on Saturday, 13/02/2016 13:56 AEST

Police are investigating the theft of a forklift from a worksite at West Hindmarsh.

Sometime between Friday 5 and Sunday 7 February, thieves stole a Manitou MT625 diesel 4WD forklift from the worksite on Bond St (between Port and Grange Roads near the South Road upgrade).

The forklift (similar to the one pictured below) has a Coates Hire fleet number plate welded to vehicle – number 117633, serial number 955175 and is normally transported on flatbed truck.

Man charged over more than 20 break-ins – Nimbin

New South Wales Police on Saturday, 13/02/2016 13:22 AEST

A man has been charged following an investigation into break and enter offences in the state’s Northern Rivers region.

On Tuesday 8 December 2015, police from Richmond Local Area Command executed a search warrant at a home on Gungas Road, Nimbin, and located a large amount of property, which was believed to be stolen.

The 45-year-old male resident was arrested and charged with 19 offences, including property, drug, and firearm offences.

Following an extensive investigation, Lismore detectives have linked the alleged stolen property to alleged break-ins throughout the Nimbin area between May 2014 and December 2015.

The 45-year-old man was subsequently charged with 20 counts of break, enter and steal, three counts of steal from dwelling and larceny.

Fact Check: Use of metadata in relation to journalists

Fact Check: Use of metadata i…

The AFP is aware of a recent statement made by the Media, Entertainment and Arts Alliance (MEAA), claiming that it “is trawling the metadata of journalists and we know that because when we met the federal government representatives and the federal police to discuss our concerns about the metadata legislation, the AFP admitted that they had accessed the metadata of journalists 13 times in an 18-month period in an effort to identify the source of a published story”.

This is not an accurate description of the comments made.

The AFP has not accessed or applied to access the metadata information belonging to any journalist since 13 October 2015, when new legislation came into effect.

Legislation surrounding the Telecommunications Act prevents the AFP from publicly releasing specific information to provide further clarity surrounding this inaccurate claim.

Fatal crash – Moama

New South Wales Police on Saturday, 13/02/2016 11:36 AEST

One woman has died and another is seriously injured following a crash at Moama this morning.

Just before 3am (Saturday 13 February 2016), a Renault hatchback was driving along Perricoota Road, when it left the roadway and struck a tree.

The 19-year-old female driver from Bendigo, Victoria, has been airlifted to the Alfred Hospital, Melbourne with serious injuries. Her current condition is not known.

A female passenger died at the scene. Whilst she has not yet been formally identified, she is believed to be a 22-year-old, also from Bendigo.

Officers from Deniliquin Local Area Command are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and will prepare a report for the information of the Coroner.

Delays expected on the Hume Highway near Yass following truck rollover

Motorists are advised to expect delays on the Hume Highway near Yass following a crash this morning.

About 5.20am (Saturday 13 February 2016), police and emergency services were called after a B-double rolled over onto its side on the Hume Highway, Manton, near the Mundoonen rest stop.

No other vehicles were involved and the male driver was uninjured.

Officers from The Hume Local Area Command and Traffic and Highway Patrol Command attended and commenced an investigation.

Traffic diversions remain in place around the crash site and delays are expected in the area.

Police investigate serious crash in the Clarence Valley

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward as they investigate a serious crash at Coutts Crossing, in the Clarence Valley, overnight.

Tullamarine thieves with luxurious taste

Hume Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the theft of three luxury cars believed to be worth more than $270,000 from Tullamarine this week.

Police believe the unknown offenders have entered through cut cyclone fencing on the Tullamarine Freeway, which is at the back of the Garden Drive business, on Wednesday 11 February about 3am.

Once inside, offenders have gained access to the keys of three luxury cars that were parked inside the business.

They have stolen a white 2009 BMW, white 2015 Mercedes Benz C63 and black 2013 Chrysler 300c.

Detectives are keen to speak to anyone who may have any information or saw any suspicious activity in the area.

Serious crash at Coulta

Police are at the scene of a serious crash at Coulta, north of Port Lincoln on the State’s west coast.

About 6.15am police and emergency services responded to reports of a car colliding with a tree on the Flinders Highway within the township.

Traffic is currently being diverted around the crash site.

Major Crash Investigators are attending the scene.

Police charge youth over stabbing – Greenfield Park

Police have charged a youth following a stabbing at Greenfield Park yesterday.

About 7pm (Friday 12 February 2016), a 21-year-old man was driving along Mimosa Road with a passenger when he stopped at lights at the intersection of Smithfield Road.

A green sedan stopped next to his vehicle, and the two drivers spoke to each other.

Police have been told the man exited his vehicle and approached the sedan, when the male driver of the green vehicle exited his vehicle, together with a number of passengers.

An altercation ensued between the man and the group of people, before the 21-year-old was stabbed in the abdomen.

Police pursuit at Ridleyton

South Australia Police on Saturday, 13/02/2016 07:02 AEST

Police are looking for the driver of a car involved in a short pursuit at Ridleyton overnight.

About 12.30am police spotted a silver BMW sedan in Hawker Street with checks revealing that the car was unregistered and defected.

Police attempted to stop the car but the driver refused and sped off, heading south on South Road.

As the car approached train lines near Port Road, the driver continued through the crossing and collided with boom gates. Patrols terminated the pursuit as the car continued on South Road.

A short time later police received reports that the car had crashed into a fire hydrant on Ware Street, Thebarton but the driver had fled and could not be located.

Police enquiries are continuing to locate the owner of the vehicle.

Stabbing incident, Capalaba

Police have charged a 29-year-old man over the unlawful wounding of another man last night in Capalaba.

It will be alleged that around 9.30pm, two men were involved in a verbal argument at a Saint Lukes Court residence.

The argument allegedly escalated into physical fighting, where one of the men has used a knife to stab the other in the hip area.

A 29-year-old Capalaba man sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital for treatment and observation.

The other 29-year-old Capalaba man has been charged with one count of wounding and is scheduled to appear in the Cleveland Magistrates Court on March 10.

The men were known to each other.

Boozy Springvale speedster

A 26-year-old man will be charged after he was allegedly caught speeding and drink driving in Springvale this morning.

Casey Highway Patrol were targeting intentional high risk driving as part of Operation Sumatra in Springvale when they observed a vehicle travelling east along the Princes Highway about 1.20am.

It will be alleged in court the car was clocked on the laser travelling at 171kph in an 80kph zone.

The vehicle was intercepted in a nearby hotel car-park where the driver returned a positive preliminary breath test.

The vehicle, a blue Ford sedan, was impounded at a cost of $917 and the Springvale South driver was taken back to the station where he allegedly blew 0.178, more than three times the legal limit.

Department store disarster

Police and other emergency services spent the best part of Friday evening negotiating with a man who barricaded himself in off-limits areas within a department store on Bourke Street in Melbourne CBD.

It was around 8.30pm when the situation kicked off and not until just prior to 1am that the man surrendered with that assistance of Critical Incident Response Team negotiators.

During the ordeal it will be alleged the man threatened police and other emergency services with a knife.

The 33-year-old, from no fixed address, was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital for a mental health assessment.

He will be facing charges for weapons offences, burglary and property damage that will cover not only the stock he damaged but also the fire alarm and sprinkler system his actions activated.

Search for missing Macleod man Stephen Fealy

Police are appealing for public assistance to help locate missing man Stephen Fealy.

The 56-year-old is missing from Macleod and there are concerns for his wellbeing due to him suffering from cerebral palsy.

Stephen was last seen wearing jeans, casual shoes and a shirt.

An image of Stephen has been released in the hope someone may recognise him.

Two charged over wheelchair theft – Ultimo

A man and woman have been charged over the alleged theft of a man’s wheelchair at Ultimo early this month.

About 5.30pm on Tuesday 2 February 2016, a 37-year-old disabled man left his wheelchair in a common area outside of a unit in Mary Ann Street.

About 12.15am the following morning it was noticed that the wheelchair was missing.

Police from Sydney City Local Area Command commenced an investigation.

About 7.30pm yesterday (Friday 12 February 2016), police arrested a 20-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man after they returned to their vehicle on Allen Street, Pyrmont.

Armed robbery, Kingston

Queensland Police Service on Saturday, 13/02/2016 01:48 AEST

Police have charged a 32-year-old man following an alleged armed robbery at a service station yesterday afternoon in Kingston.

At around 5.40pm, a man entered a service station on Juers Street and attempted to purchase a drink and cigarettes. The transaction was declined and the man allegedly proceeded to walk out of the store with the goods.

When he was challenged by the male shop attendant, he allegedly produced a knife and allegedly threatened the attendant.

The man left the scene on foot with the stolen property, however police located him a short while later at the Kingston Railway Station. Upon trying to apprehend the man, police will further allege that did not comply with police direction.

A 32-year-old Kingston man has been charged with one count each of armed robbery and obstruct police. He is due to appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on February 15.

Charges: Armed man, Doomadgee

Queensland Police Service on Saturday, 13/02/2016 01:04 AEST

Doomadgee police have charged a 31-year-old man after an incident yesterday evening in Doomadgee.

Around 8.20pm, police were called to the intersection of Burke and Robert streets where they will allege that a man was aggressively holding a knife in each hand and walking down the street.

After he unarmed himself, police apprehended him without incident.

The 31-year-old Doomadgee man has been charged with one count of possession of a knife in a public place. He is scheduled to appear in the Doomadgee Magistrates Court on February 17.

Update: Fatal traffic crash, Thangool

Queensland Police Service on Saturday, 13/02/2016 01:04 AEST

Police have identified the man who lost his life in this afternoon’s crash as a 17-year-old from Thangool.

Around 4pm, emergency services were called to a single vehicle sedan crash on Elchmanns Road.

A sedan carrying five people, driven by a 17-year-old man, appeared to have rolled around 10kms south of Biloela.

Upon arrival, police located the driver deceased at the scene.

Three male passengers, aged in their late teens, were treated for their injuries at the scene by the Queensland Ambulance Service. Another passenger, also a male, was airlifted for treatment of serious injuries.

The Forensic Crash Unit will continue to investigate this crash. There is no further information available at this stage.

Girls followed by man in car – Bathurst

Police are appealing for public assistance after two girls were followed by a man in a car near Bathurst today.

About 4pm (Friday 12 February 2016) two girls, aged 11 and 9, were walking along Dees Close, Gormans Hill, when a silver Mazda utility began to follow them at slow speed.

The windows were down and the driver was seen to be a Caucasian male, aged between 40 and 50, with olive skin, and wearing a blue singlet and grey shorts.

The girls ran to their home and informed their parents, who contacted police. The utility drove to the end of the cul-de-sac before driving from the area.

The driver of the vehicle did not speak to the girls, however he was seen to be staring at them and his actions are considered suspicious, and police would like to speak to him.

Second person charged following pursuit and crash – Richmond

A second person has been charged following an alleged pursuit and crash in Richmond earlier this week.

About 2.40pm on Tuesday 9 February 2016, officers from Hawkesbury Traffic and Highway Patrol Command attempted to stop a black Holden Commodore on Bells Line of Road after it was allegedly seen driving with no plates.

It will be alleged the driver of the Commodore failed to stop and a pursuit commenced.

The Commodore was then seen to collide with a Mazda CX5 on Bells Line of Road and failed to stop.

The driver of the Mazda was treated at the scene by Ambulance Paramedics for minor injuries.

Police investigate after girl approached in northern Sydney

Police are appealing for witnesses after a girl was approached by an unknown man in Davidson, in Sydney’s north, today.

About 7.35am (Friday 12 February 2016), the 12 year-old-girl was waiting at a bus stop on the corner of Sir Thomas Mitchell Road and Twynam Road, when a white van stopped in front of her.

Police have been told a man driving the vehicle spoke to the girl, before she ran from the scene.

Officers attached to Northern Beaches Local Area Command were notified of the incident and commenced investigations.

As inquiries continue, police would like to speak to a man who may be able to assist them.

Assault and burglary charges, Runaway Bay

Police have charged a man following a series of incidents early this morning.

Around 2.30am, police will allege a man broke into a residence at Hope Island and stole a vehicle which he drove to an address on Shearwater Esplanade in Runaway Bay.

It will be further alleged that the man entered a house at Runaway Bay and, when disturbed by the occupants, he stole car keys and a vehicle from the address.

Responding police have located a man outside the house, and the man has attempted drive away but has damaged the vehicle, and then fled on foot and entered a house a short distance away.

Inside, it will be alleged that the man armed himself with a knife before attempting to assault a man and a boy and then fled to another residence.

The man has then been restrained by a number of neighbors and was taken into custody shortly after.

A 37-year-old Cannon Hill man has been charged with three counts of enter dwelling with intent and willful damage, two counts each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and common assault, and one count each of burglary, robbery with violence, attempted robbery with violence and assault occasioning bodily harm.

He is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court tomorrow.

Police appeal after counterfeit notes located – Goulburn

Police are appealing for the public to be vigilant as they investigate reports of counterfeit currency being used to purchase goods in the Goulburn area in the last two weeks.

Officers attached to The Hume Local Area Command have received reports of counterfeit notes being passed onto two businesses over the past 12 days.

Police are urging all local business owners to be vigilant when receiving $50 notes as payment.

Australia’s banknotes have a range of security features that can be used to check if they are genuine.

Those who come into contact with suspicious notes are asked to handle the note as little as possible and store it in an envelope.

Missing woman Samantha Smith

Police need your help to locate missing woman Samantha Smith.

Ms. Smith is 42-years-old and was last seen at 10.30am this morning at Bedford Park. Police and family have concerns for her welfare as she suffers from a medical condition.

Samantha Smith is described as of Caucasian appearance, 160cm tall, 45kg with shoulder length red/brown hair, brown eyes with a pale complexion. Ms Smith was wearing a green patterned dress, black thongs and compression stockings. She may be in a grey Subaru Impreza sedan with registration XOW447.

Police investigate stabbing – Greenfield Park

Police are appealing for witnesses following a stabbing at Greenfield Park this evening.
