Woman Granted Bail After Seriously Assaulting Three Officers

A woman who allegedly threw a cup at a barmaid and seriously assaulted three Queensland Police officers has been granted bail.

Melinda Cornelia Wegner, 20, from Mount Louisa, appeared in Townsville Magistrates Court, charged with being drunk and disorderly and three counts of serious assault on police.

The court heard Wegner was at a hotel on the strip when she was refused service about 3.10am.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Rachel Todd said police patrolling the Flinders St precinct were approached by security who said Wegner had been removed from the premises after a disturbance with a barmaid.

Police arrested the female and walked her over to the police vehicle. Wegner then allegedly kicked a police officer while being placed in a vehicle to be taken to Townsville watch-house. Once at the watch-house, she allegedly kicked two more police officers.

Wegner had been charged with eight assaults against police officers in the last 16 months

Magistrate Howard Osbourne granted Wegner bail on the conditions that she does not enter the Flinders St drinking precinct and reports to police three times a week.

Mr Osbourne ordered Wegner to return to court on February 17 for a committal mention.
