Pressure is on the State Government to urgently address the shortage of police on the northern Gold Coast which has seen a population boom in the past 10 years.

Coomera state Liberal MP Michael Crandon has lodged a petition calling for the immediate allocation of 50 officers and the construction of a new police station at Ormeau.

“The region has experienced significant growth in the past 10 years and current police services need to be adjusted,” he said.

Unfortunately, the number of police officers had not increased at the same rate and another 50 officers could easily be accommodated at Coomera now.

“We also need a police presence that is closer to the Ormeau/Pimpama area and we need this urgently,” Mr Crandon said.

“Fortunately, police have been able to keep a lid on crime in this area,” Mr Crandon said.
