A man has been charged after a female officer was struck in the head by a glass bottle at Shalvey overnight.
About 1.15am (Friday 1 January 2016), police were patrolling Sidwell Place, when they noticed a large group of people standing on the roadway.
Officers approached them and asked them to move, at which point one person reached inside the police vehicle before running into a nearby home.
Police went to the address and spoke to a group of men who began verbally abusing them.
It’s alleged a 21-year-old man threw a glass bottle at police, which struck a female Constable in the head.
The man then ran into the kitchen and allegedly resisted police as they arrested him.
The injured officer was taken to Nepean Hospital, where she received stitches for a large cut to the forehead.
The man was taken to Mt Druitt Police Station and charged with reckless wounding, affray, and resist officer in execution of duty.
He was refused bail, to appear before Parramatta Bail Court today (Friday 1 January 2016).
