Career Change: IT Project Officer Turns Victoria Police Officer

Jasna Pivac spent three years working as an IT project officer at police stations around Victoria before deciding to join as a uniformed member.

Clearly she liked what she saw and felt police work was the life for her.

“I admired what the members did out there. It’s a pretty tough job for them. They care for the community and I wanted to be a part of that,” she said.

Now a senior constable, Jasna, 53, graduated from the police academy in 2010.

Jasna had also worked in sales and had run her own business but nothing compared to policing, she said.

“I don’t think you can compare. It’s completely different but it’s certainly very rewarding. I haven’t looked back — I really love it.”

That broad work and life experience has helped with the daily demands of the job.

“I think it makes a huge difference because you can talk to people at different levels.
