Four Teenagers Charged After Assaulting and Spitting On Newcastle Police Officers

Four teenagers have been arrested after allegedly spitting on and assaulting police in a Mayfield fracas.

Officers were called to Mayfield shortly before midnight on Monday night, expelling several youths from a party near Maitland Road for anti-social behaviour.

Newcastle police were called to a nearby car park on Maitland Road a short time later after continued reports of disruption.

Police will allege that a brick or similar heavy object was thrown at their vehicle, prompting them to call for more officers.

It is alleged a girl, 13, pushed an officer at the scene.

The 13-year-old was arrested before a 17-year-old attempting to intervene.

She was also arrested.

Police arrested a further two male youths, aged 16 and 17 years old, after they allegedly spat on police.

The two girls were taken to Newcastle station while the boys were taken to Waratah.

The two girls were released into the custody of their parents pending further inquiries.

The 17-year-old male was charged with assault police while the younger boy will face a charge of offensive language as well as the police assault offence.

Both boys will face court in January.
