Public and police safety will continue to be the main focus of a new Tasmania Police pursuit policy.
Announced yesterday, Tasmania Police deputy commissioner Scott Tilyard said the new policy would provide increased clarity for police on when to initiate, continue and terminate a pursuit.
“Our existing pursuit policy has been very effective in reducing injuries and deaths associated with this high-risk area of policing,” he said.
“The new policy aims to further minimise risks.”
Tasmania Police said the new policy draws on best practice from all other Australian policing jurisdictions.
