Beloved Mackay Police Dog Tunza Dies

Our thoughts are with Sergeant Marcus Hahn after police squad dog Tunza died – an important part of Mackay’s police squad.

The Daily Mercury reported police dogs Tunza and Frankie had to take time off work for a few days after the police ute they were travelling in was involved in a crash at Eimeo in June last year.

Inspector Andy Graham said the two shepherds belonged to the dog squad and were trained in tracking. He said the dogs were okay but had been stood down for a couple of days with minor injuries.

In February last year Tunza assisted police on a chase through dense bush at Seaforth after a break and enter and fuel drive-off in Mackay.

Then in April 2013, Tunza, and Sergeant Marcus Hahn were presented with the District Officer Certificate at a Queensland Police Service ceremony.

The pair were recognised for a foot pursuit during which they tracked and apprehended a number of suspects.

Tunza and Sgt Hahn tracked offenders through steep terrain in Slade Point following a break and enter.
