Two Queensland Police Officers Injured Executing Arrest

Police have charged a 17-year-old man after an incident in which two female officers were injured at Normanton yesterday.

It will be alleged around 1pm officers attended a Dutton Street address to arrest a man on unrelated matters when he became aggressive, punching a female constable in the face.

He then allegedly pushed another female constable before biting her on the leg before being restrained and arrested a short time later.

The officers received medical treatment.

A 17-year-old Normanton man has been charged with two counts each of serious assault police and obstruct police. He appeared in the Mount Isa Magistrates Court today and has been bailed to reappear in Normanton Magistrates Court on September 21.

Mount Isa District Inspector Trevor Kidd said assaults on police were never acceptable.

“Remote policing is challenging enough without our officers being used as punching bags,” Inspector Kidd said.

“This sort of behaviour will not be tolerated.”
