Two More Officers Attacked In Townsville On Friday

Pleas for an end to Townsville’s ongoing spate of assaults on police are falling on deaf ears, with another two officers assaulted on Friday night.

Shockingly, one of the attacks was from a juvenile male, who allegedly kicked a 40-year-old female constable in the groin.

The Kirwan officer was also scratched on the hand after she attended a disturbance at Riverway at 9pm.

Two hours later capsicum spray had to be used to subdue a man when a male Townsville officer was assaulted while investigating a disturbance on Stokes St in the central business district.

The attacks are the latest in a string of assaults on police in Townsville, with nearly 200 since June 2014 in which police were spat on, punched, kicked and pushed.

Queensland Police Union president Ian Leavers called on greater protections for police.
