Woman Spat On Mackay Police Officer, Immediately Released on Parole

Police should be able to do their jobs without being assaulted by the people they’re trying to help.

This was the message from District Court Judge Deborah Richards for Sarah Kate Currie, who pleaded guilty to spitting on a Mackay police officer on November 5 last year.

“Police perform very difficult jobs and spitting is just disgusting full stop,” Judge Richards said. “They shouldn’t have to put up with that.”

Judge Richards said a term of imprisonment was called for but gave Currie the benefit of immediate parole.

Currie was convicted and jailed for 12 months to be released immediately on parole.
