London Man Arrested On Suspicion Of Attempted Murder Of Metropolitan Police Constables

Two police officers have been injured after arresting an “extremely violent” man who was throwing large knives at them in a north London street.

The police constables, aged 24 and 26, were called to Kingsdown Road, Islington at just after 6pm last night to reports of a disturbance.

As they arrived on the scene, they were approached by a man who began to throw “a number” of large knives at them as children reportedly played football nearby.

One officer suffered injuries to his face and body, while another sustained a minor head injury.

Despite their wounds, the officers managed to restrain the man before arresting him on suspicion of attempted murder.

Detective Chief Superintendent Catherine Roper said:

“Officers responded to an emergency call and were confronted by an extremely violent male.

This male attempted to seriously assault the officers, including throwing knives at them in the street where other people were present.

These officers displayed immense bravery and professionalism, and were able to detain the male without sustaining serious injury to him, other members of the public or themselves.”
