RCMP Jet Boat Capsizes, Officers Make It Safely To Shore

An RCMP jet boat capsized Friday while patrolling the Athabasca River 30 kilometres from Whitecourt. Alberta Forestry helped the four officers get safely to shore.

Members of the Whitecourt Fire Department are attempting to retrieve the boat. It capsized after striking something, but an RCMP spokeswoman said she didn’t know what the boat hit.

RCMP spokeswoman Sgt. Josée Valiquette said the officers weren’t hurt. “They’re probably shaken up, but safe.”

The RCMP is investigating the incident and will also conduct an internal review.
