Crime and Corruption Commission Will Not Investigate Police Minister Jo-Ann Miller

The opposition referred the Queensland police minister to the Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) earlier this month after she phoned a man who made harassment and forgery claims against Labor MP Rick Williams.

“The CCC has determined it is in the public interest to confirm it will not proceed with an investigation,” a statement issued on Thursday read.

The corruption body said its jurisdiction with regards to elected officials is limited to when one is accused of doing something that constitutes a criminal offence.

The minister had told state parliament she phoned the man because her natural instinct to help others is “strong and overwhelming”.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk downplayed her minister’s actions as an error of judgment: “It will not happen again,” she told parliament.

The Queensland Police Service said it acknowledged the CCC’s determination and would not be acting upon the opposition’s referral of Ms Miller either.
